About the Role

The manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the operations of a 6-shed Breeder Production farm, including:

• managing a team of people and their safety
• bird welfare and animal husbandry for fertile egg production
• onsite biosecurity

Duties

• Co-ordination of all farm activities for the achievement of short and long-term business objectives.
• monitoring alarms and coordinating replacements when you are not available.
• Lead your team to undertake specialist tasks including bird health, feeding, egg grading, monitoring shed conditions etc.
• Undertake serological monitoring and ensure that all medications are administered as required and in the appropriate manner.
• Ensure all farm administration duties are performed in accordance with Darwalla guidelines, including the completion of all relevant reports and documentation within specified timeframes. 
• Grow and lead your team to develop them, maintain team harmony and Darwalla values.

You will collaborate with your colleagues at other farms to continuously improve and report directly to the Breeder Operations Manager.  It is a full-time permanent position, living on-site in a fully maintained company house.  You will be expected to respond to shed alarms and work some weekends.

About the Farm

Our 6-shed breeder production farm is a modern farm 10 minutes outside Allora, on the Southern Darling Downs in South-East Queensland.  

About you

The successful candidate will meet the following criteria:

• Previous poultry experience is required
• Conversant with animal welfare standards, legislative obligations and Health, Safety and Environment policies and procedures
• Experience operating shed controllers and automated egg collecting machines
• Self-motivated, demonstrated effective time management skills with an ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
• Experience leading a team safely and according to our values, allocating tasks to meet departmental objectives
• Strive to meet industry “best practice” standards and to continuously improve
• Decision making and problem solving skills
• Excellent communication skills

About the Position:

Darwalla is on the lookout for motivated team members to join our state-of-the-art chicken Hatchery in Allora, conveniently situated between Toowoomba and Warwick.

Successful candidates will engage in various tasks, including egg setting and transfer, chick take-off and processing, and various cleaning duties. The role demands physical strength, fitness, and good health.  You'll  need to undergo a health check before getting a job offer to make sure you can handle the job requirements.

Bio-Security and Standards:

Due to strict biosecurity and animal welfare standards in the poultry industry, so all employees are restricted from keeping pet birds, poultry and pigs and residing with others who work at other poultry or involved with pig farming/hunting. The Hatchery follows a shower-in, shower-out protocol.

About the Role

Darwalla is seeking applications for people who care about their job, to work alongside our experienced teams in our poultry farms, located between Warwick & Toowoomba, on the beautiful Southern Darling Downs. 

The successful candidates will be required to carry out a wide range of physical tasks including walking in sheds, egg collecting, egg grading & packing and cleaning sheds.  Full training is provided, so no experience is necessary, however a willingness to learn and work hard is essential.

Generally we work across 7 days/week. The number of hours per week may vary .Our farms are located in rural locations between Warwick & Toowoomba, plus out at Killarney & down at Laidley, so a driver's license and access to reliable transport is necessary.  

The poultry industry has very strict bio-security and animal welfare standards, so all employees are restricted from keeping pet birds, poultry and pigs and residing with others who work at other poultry or pig farming work sites.  Therefore, if you have poultry, birds or pigs kept at your house, I'm sorry but you cannot work for Darwalla.  Our farms are all shower-on & shower-off facilities to protect our birds from disease.  Our showers are hot and we supply towels, uniforms and all safety equipment.

About the Role:

This is a hands-on position operating and maintaining equipment within our feed manufacturing facility 

Duties include:

• operating Feed Mill and production equipment
• Batching and manufacturing feed products
• Coordinating feed deliveries
• Monitoring production process
• assist with maintenance and repairs
• Maintaining housekeeping and safety standards
• You will be working as part of a small team responsible for supplying feed across our poultry operations

Working Hours

• Monday to Friday Roster
• Rotating 12-hour day and night shifts
• Occasional weekend work as required
• overtime available and paid at double time

The shift duration can very week to week. We work 12hr shift x 5 days a week at the maximum demand. Some weeks will be 10hr shifts x 5 when the demand is lower

As we operate in a 24/7 industry, flexibility and punctuality is important
